Pay Per Click Rant - Clients!
It's been an interesting few weeks. All sorts of goings on have taken place. One of the strangest things that happened to me was a client calling up stating that they were 'behind' on their PPC spends. The request was that we spend an extra £100K - yes one hundred thousand pounds - in the week ahead, despite the fact that this client has absolutely no conversion tracking in place whatsoever (their IT department have been unable to upload a page with a tracking script on for 6 months...) Fundamentally they wanted me to spend an extra £100K blind, in a week.
The obvious reply was made: 'HELLO? We can't track this. What's the point? You will lose money!' The guy had failed to spend an extra £100k on the Web that week; he was worried that he was going to get a telling off from his boss.
Where is the sense in this? Where is the logic?
It seems to me that if you do a 'good job' for someone, get them a load of customers in at a specific cost, they then think you can just do that again. Thus if you spend twice as much money, then you will get exactly double the results!!
What planet do these people live on?
